The Heard Museum was founded in 1929 by Dwight B. and Maie Bartlett Heard to house their personal collection of art. Much of the archaeological material in the Heards' collection came from La Ciudad Indian ruin, which the Heards purchased in 1926 at 19th and Polk streets in Phoenix. Portions of the museum were designed by architect Bennie Gonzales, who also designed Scottsdale City Hall.
Never disappoints. We only had a few hours and made the best of our time touring the Heard. Truly a gem in the middle of the city. We love this museum. They have an amazing gift shop and Cafe. This is a must see!! The staff was friendly and extremely knowledgeable.

The Arizona State Capitol is the seat of government for the U.S. state of Arizona and is located in its capital city of Phoenix. The capitol comprises the original State Capitol building; two buildings housing the legislative chambers for the Arizona State Legislature made up of the House of Representatives and the Senate; and Executive Tower containing offices for the Governor. It was originally built in 1900 as the capitol for the Arizona Territory, and became the state capitol after Arizona was admitted into the Union in 1912. The 1900 capitol is maintained as the Arizona Capitol Museum with a focus on the history and culture of Arizona.

The Arizona Capitol Museum was a highlight for us. It’s completely free and packed with information about the state - from Arizona’s formation and early days to its political history and how things evolved into what they are today. The exhibits are clear and engaging, making it easy to actually learn without feeling overwhelmed. The building itself is fascinating: a small, old, and beautiful structure with real character. It’s especially interesting to see that this historic building is now preserved as a museum, while the newer building nearby is where the state government actually operates today. Informative, well maintained, and absolutely worth the visit.

Rosson House, at 113 North 6th Street at the corner of Monroe Street in Downtown Phoenix, Arizona, is a historic house museum in Heritage Square. It was built between 1894 and 1895 in the Stick-Eastlake - Queen Anne Style of Victorian architecture and was designed by San Francisco architect A. P. Petit, his final design before his death. Named for Dr. Roland Lee Rosson and his wife Flora Murray Rosson, the house changed hands numerous times before being purchased by the City of Phoenix and restored to its original condition.
We had Olivia as our tour guide she was super knowledgeable. It was cool how much Arizona history is tied to this house. A “smart house” 50 years ahead of its time.
The tours are like every hour on the hour and about 45 min. Super worth it- was very cool
